In 1960, with the help of her mother, Marie Austin established a tradition in Durham when she founded her real estate company.  Based solidly on service and quality, Marie Austin Realty flourished and now is one of the most respected locally owned realty companies in the Durham area.  

In 2002, Marie's daughter, Joan Austin, assumed control of Marie Austin Realty and has skillfully maintained the time-tested traditions of service and quality.

A good company attracts good Realtors, and good Realtors ensure that the reputation of accepting nothing but the best continues to be available from generation to generation.

Realty companies come and go in the Durham area, but the pink sign continues to represent a standard of excellence that only comes with service, quality, and tradition.   

Marie Austin - 1914 - 2002  In 1965, Marie was the first woman accepted as a member of the Durham Association of Realtors®. She was also one of the founders of the Durham Multiple Listing Service, served on the DAR Board of Directors, many DAR committees, and in 1985 was honored as Realtor ® of the Year. She actively participated in the company until her death in July, 2002.  Marie's contributions and legacies have opened doors for all women in real estate and paved the way for many to follow in her footsteps.
